The Krishnamurti Center is the operational arm of the KFA. The Center runs the retreat, library, orchard, development office, programs, archives, and publications.

The KC attracts people from all over the world who come to learn about themselves using Krishnamurti’s teachings as a basis for inquiry. Located on 11 acres of land where Krishnamurti lived while in the United States, the KC includes the Krishnamurti Library & Study Center, the Pepper Tree Retreat, and the Archive building.

All visitors are welcome to explore the center’s grounds, tour Krishnamurti’s former house, browse the library, and visit the Krishnamurti exhibit at the Pavilion. The center hosts speakers, dialogue groups, conferences, and study programs within the context of a cooperative, shared inquiry into the fundamental questions of human life. The center is a forum and takes no positions except to encourage a spirit of inquiry on the part of those who choose to come and participate.

The Library & Study Center

The Library & Study Center is located in Pine Cottage, the former home of Krishnamurti. This building is intended to provide space for studying and reflecting upon the essential questions that Krishnamurti raised in his talks, writings, and dialogues. The library contains a comprehensive collection of J. Krishnamurti’s teachings, including all of his books and an extensive selection of talks, discussions, and interviews in audio and video formats. Apart from a large reading room, there are facilities for viewing videos, and a quiet room for meditation. Books, audio, and video disks may be purchased in the bookstore. Join us for weekly dialogues and shared inquiry.

The Pepper Tree Retreat

The Pepper Tree Retreat was originally known as “Arya Vihara.” During his many years in Ojai, Krishnamurti welcomed thousands of visitors from around the world who were challenged by his penetrating inquiries into the fundamental questions of life. Today, the KFA continues to operate this retreat for the study of the teachings of J. Krishnamurti. It is open to anyone who wants to retreat from daily life, and to reflect on and connect with nature. The two original buildings on the property, Pine Cottage and Arya Vihara, have been designated historic structures by the Ventura County Historic Preservation Commission. These buildings were constructed in 1895 and 1910 respectively but gained historic significance as the home of Krishnamurti and a center for the study of his teachings. The Residential Scholar Program

The Residential Student/Scholar program is a one year program based on the understanding that, as Krishnamurti stated, without the “awakening of intelligence” and the “flowering of goodness” in the individual, there is little or no basis for action. Residential students live on campus and find ample opportunity for self-inquiry and exploration of interpersonal and group dynamics. The intention of the program is above all, to allow for open exploration of all aspects of one’s life, with the ongoing potential of gaining insight into the nature of one’s life, the world, and the activity of human relationship.

Think on These Things

Think on These Things is our outreach program intended for young adults in high schools and universities. What happens to a person if you ask questions that challenge the very perspective from which they look? Questions like “What does fear do to your brain?” and “Can you live your life without comparison?” In this initiative, we are asking these questions of young adults and filming their responses. We have visited students in local high schools and universities. If you know or are a professor who might be interested please contact us at info@kfa.org
